The Reception for Becky and John was AMAZING!
PFLAG'ers Old and new, from near and far came to honor John and Becky.
A pewter plaque was presented to them, along with a poem written by Donna:
Our Fearless Leaders
John and Becky Glezen
A quarter of a century
has marked the changes made.
Great strides in civil rights have come
because of time you gave.
You marched the streets of Washington
to make our voices heard.
You met with our state’s leaders,
and challenged hateful words.
You learned a special language
filled with acronyms galore,
attended meetings every month
and still came back for more.
You stood with us for marriage rights
and full adoption too.
You made trans rights become the law.
We owe a debt to you.
You always stood to hear the names
of trans folks killed by hate.
You shared our sorrow and our joys,
of that there’s no debate.
You went to many conferences
both national and here.
You met with churches, opened hearts,
and took away the fear.
Your phones were always open
to take calls from parents who
had just heard news surprising,
but YOU knew what to do.
We thank you for your leadership,
examples clearly set.
PFLAG is ALWAYS FAMILY,
on that you sure can bet!
